At the fifth time of asking, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has finally won a cup Semi Final and has taken his side on the verge of European Glory as they are all set to face Spanish side Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League Final on May 27th in Gdansk,Poland.
Having thrashed AS Roma 6-2 in the first leg(with 5 goals in the second half) United were in the comfortable seat of making it to another European final. However saying that AS Roma didn't give a fair old crack in the second leg would be an understatement. The Italian outfit had already pulled of a miraculous comeback against FC Barcelona in 2017-18 and with two away goals to their name, their was still hope.
That hope though was vanquished by half time as Edinson Cavani's goal in the 39th minute looked to have killed of the tie with United now have a 7-2 aggregate lead.
With nothing but pride now, Roma displayed a fighting character as two goals within 3 minutes made it 2-1 on the night and 7-4 on agg as Edin Dzeko in the 57th minute and Bryan Cristante scored in the 60th minute. They almost had a third goal, a minute later but United's keeper De Gea pulled out a magnificent double save from Dzeko and Pedro to keep it at 2-1.
Cavani's second goal in the 68th minute actually killed off the fantasy comeback for Roma. They however had some joy at the end of the night as a late own goal from Alex Telles in the 83rd minute saw them win the game 3-2 but lose the the tie 5-8 on aggregate.
As for Villarreal, they played out a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal. Their 2-1 win in Spain was enough to send them through to the final. Arsenal had chances with Captain Pierre Emrick Aubameyang being denied by the woodwork twice.
