A tribute to celebrities & dignitaries who passed away due to Covid-19

A lot of well known artists and dignitaries have passed away. We at the Su-Niti News share our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.

Former Union Minister Ajit Singh

Former Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh aged 82, passed away on Thursday after losing battle to Covid-19, his son Jayant Chaudhary confirmed on Twitter.

Singh was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Gurugram after been diagnosed with the infection. He had tested positive for Covid-19 on April 20.

Ajit Singh Ji was a seven-time Member of Parliament from Baghpat, and served as Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Agriculture, and Food Processing Industries in different governments. He had served in the governments of VP Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.

Ajit Singh, the son of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, quit the computer industry to return to India and join politics. He became a Rajya Sabha member in 1986.

Politicians like PM Narendra Modi & Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid their condolences.

Actress Sriprada

• Bollywood and Bhojpuri actor Sriprada has passed away due to Covid-19 complications.

Sriprada worked with Bhojpuri film star Ravi Kishan in the 2015 film Hum To Ho Gayi Ni Tohar. She worked in a few south films and television shows as well.

Some of the popular films that she featured in include Batwara, Dharam Sankat, Umar 55 Ki Dil Bachpan Ka, Reshma, among others.

CINTAA as well celebrities like Actor-dancer Sudhaa Chandran mourned the demise of Sriprada Ji through their social media handles.

Actor Pandu

74-year-old popular comedy actor Pandu passed away on Thursday due to Covid-19 related complications. He and his wife Kumudha had tested positive for the virus recently and were admitted to a private hospital. His condition deteriorated on Thursday morning and he breathed his last at the hospital.

Pandu is a household name among Tamil movie fans. He joined the film industry following in the footsteps of his brother, Idichapuli Selvaraj, who was also a well-known comedian in the industry. Before joining show business, he was pursuing his interest in painting. It is noteworthy that he played a vital role in designing the flag of the AIADMK party, which was founded by matinee icon MG Ramachandran.

Pandu made his screen debut in the 1970s. And he went onto work with leading stars and directors spanning three generations.

MJC Comagan

• Singer and actor MJC Comagan aged 48 passed away on Thursday morning due to Covid-19 complications. Comagan is survived by his wife and two children.

Comagan was an inspiration for all. He did not let his visual impairment stop him from carving a niche for himself in the industry. He ran a music troupe called Comaganin Raaga Priya, comprising of musicians with visual impairment. Comagan became very popular with the mainstream audience in Tamil Nadu after he appeared in the hit 2004 film Autograph. The song “Ovvoru Pookalume” was filmed on Raaga Priya, with Comagan conducting the orchestra and actor Sneha singing along. He and his troupe also appeared in the Telugu remake of the film titled Naa Autograph. And then Raaga Priya was also used in the picturisation of the song “Uyir Thantha Thaye” from the film Pasupathy Rasakapalayam.

Director Cheran, has condoled Comagan's demise on Twitter.

Comagan also appeared in films like Kannukulle and Sura. He also scored the music for Tamil movie Muthal Muthalai in 2007. But his real achievement lies in the sheer volume of work in the field of live music. His band has performed more than 3000 stage shows over 30 years. Raaga Priya also holds a Limca Book of World Records for performing non-stop for 16 hours in 1999.

Navnath Gaikwad

Marathi actor Navnath Gaikwad, who worked in films like Fatteshikast and Farzand, has passed away due to Covid-19 complications.

The writer-director of Fatteshikast and Farzand, Digpal Lanjekar shared the tragic news of Navnath’s demise on Facebook. He shared, “Navnath Gaikwad, a very talented and hardworking artist who worked in Farjand and Fatteshikast, passed away tragically due to Corona. May his soul rest in peace..”
