Charred body of 22 year old Engineer found at campus of IIT Madras

 

On Thursday evening, a 22-year-old research scholar who was reported to be working as a project coordinator at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) was found dead on the campus. The police are suspecting it to be a case of suicide.

The victim, Unnikrishnan Nair is believed to have burnt himself. According to Investigation reports, a bottle with traces of petrol was found near his body. Nair who hails from Kerala was found partially burned near the hockey ground of the campus. The hockey players alerted their coach who then informed the police.

During the research at his house the police were able to retrieve a suicide note in which Nair had revealed to be under depression and that nobody is responsible for his death.

The IIT-M later released a statement regarding the incident. "An unfortunate and tragic incident occurred yesterday at the IIT Madras Campus, involving a temporary project staff. The project stuff whose body was found had joined the Institute in April 2021 and was living outside the campus. We are shocked and deeply grieved, and convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the departed soul. The police is investigating the incident and the Institute is fully cooperating with the authorities."
