Fully vaccinated people allowed to travel in Mumbai Locals from 15th August

 

On Sunday 8th August, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced the resumption of local train services for people who have been fully vaccinated. They will be allowed to board the local trains from 15th August. However a gap of 14 days is mandatory after taking the second dose to board the trains.

In an address to the state, Thackeray announced that fully vaccinated people will need to get their monthly train passes that will be available through an app on smartphones. People who do not have a smartphone can get their passes from municipal ward offices and railway stations.

During his address, Thackeray also mentioned that the government is planning on more relaxtions for shops, malls, restaurants and religious places and a decision regarding it will be taken after a meeting with task force members on Monday.

Known as the Lifeline of Mumbai, the local train services were halted after the outbreak of COVID-19. It was later resumed for essential workers. As cases started to decline in January, the train services were resumed for all citizens only for the second wave to arrive and halt everything again in April 2021.

Over the past few days the demand regarding the resumption of train services for fully vaccinated people had skyrocketed. Only essential service workers are allowed to board the train at the moment. Opposition parties have also staged protest at various railway station to make sure their pleas are heard by the government.
