IEDs found inside tiffin boxes in Amritsar; Police suspect usage of drones from other side of border

On Monday, the Punjab Police claimed that they have a busted a terror assignment and recovered ammunition, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) fitted in tiffin boxes and hand grenades from a village in Amritsar near the international border.

  • Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta in the press conference, did not name any terror organization but claimed to know who were the mastermind behind this and added that the cops in the state are working with central agencies on this case.

According to reports, the police got an input of a bag being found abandoned. Upon opening the bag, the police found seven pouches that contained the plastic tiffin boxes, five hand grenades and 100 cartridges along with a 2 kg explosive substance, a remote control device and a switch.

"We believe the IEDs and grenades were delivered through drones from across the border. These are highly sophisticated and remote controlled devices activated through batteries" said Dinkar Gupta.

He later added that people, while travelling in public transport, should make sure to check their surroundings for suspicious objects and inform the police if any such kind of thing is spotted.
