8 dead in shooting at Russian University

 

In a shocking act of Terrorism in Russia, a gunmen went on a rampage at the Prem State University on Monday morning, killing eight people in the process. Atleast six people have been injured. The exact number is yet to be confirmed. The gunmen was later identified as a 18-year-old student of the same University.

As per reports, the gunmen entered the campus at around 11:00 (06:00 GMT) and started shooting. The University is located at around 1,300 kilometers east of capital, Moscow.

Soon students started to scatter in different directions, some locked themselves into classrooms and some jumped down from windows to escape.

"There were about 60 people in the classroom. We closed the door and barricaded it with chairs" one student, Semyon Karyakin, told the Reuters.

A piece of footage of students jumping from windows was broadcasted by the Russian Media:

  • In a social media post, the gunmen had mentioned that he was consumed by hatred and intended to do harm to others.

"I've thought about this for a long time, it's been years and I realised the time had come to do what I have dreamt of," he said on a social media account attributed to him which was later taken down as per reports from Reuters.

  • Russia's Investigative Committee told that he was wounded during his arrest and was armed with a "traumatic" non-lethal weapon.

Earlier this year, a similar attack took place in a school located in Kazan where a 19-year-old opened fire in his old school which resulted in the deaths of 9 people.
