Charanjit Singh Channi

A day after Captain Amrinder Singh resigned from his post as the Chief Minister of Punjab, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) unanimously elected Charanjit Singh Channi as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party of Punjab and is set to take over as next chief minister.

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat will visit Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh to meet Governor at 6:30 pm, as per the PRO, Punjab Raj Bhawan (Governor's House, Punjab).

On Saturday, Captain Amrinder Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Punjab following months of infighting between him and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Amrinder Singh while resigning citied that he felt "humiliated" by the senior leaders of Congress.

These development came months before the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Earlier today, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had proposed the name of Sukhjinder Randhawa for the now-vacant chief minister post.

Meanwhile Congress MLA Pritam Kotbai addressed the mediapersons in Chandigarh and said that all MLAs in Punjab have named Sukhjinder Randhawa for the Chief Minister post.

Randhawa was the minister of Jail and Department of Cooperation in Amrinder Singh's government. Prior to Randhawa, Congress MP and Senior Leader Ambika Soni was offered the post of the CM, who refused the offer citing health issues.
