On Thursday, a special PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) Court extended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik till March 7.
Malik who was arrested by the ED in connection with Dawood Ibrahim money laundering case, was initially sentenced to ED custody till March 3.
"Considering that the accused was admitted in hospital from Feb 25-28 and the investigating officer was unable to record his statement further considering the fresh facts brought on record, custody extended till March 7," the Court said.
Meanwhile the Opposition continued to protest against Malik and demanded his resignation. Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis termed the state government as "Dawood samarpit (surrendered to fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim)".
"Why does govt not want to take his resignation? This is 'Dawood Samarpit', 'Dawood sharan' govt. This govt is coming together to save people who keep relations with Dawood. That's why we've started protests & we demand that his resignation be taken immediately" Fadnavis was quoted by ANI.
