"Self-proclaimed" journalist arrested in rape, blackmailing and extortion case in J-K

On Saturday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a self proclaimed journalist for allegedly raping and extorting money from a girl.

According to an official statement from the Srinagar Police, accused Nadeem Ahmed Ganie alias Nadeem Nadu from Anantnag's Qazibagh lured her into a sexual relationship after fraudulently sedating her through a WhatsApp group created for people seeking help.

  • The victim, further alleged that Nadeem Nadu had also taken her objectionable pictures after sedating her and using them to blackmail her into forced sexual intercourse many times.
  • The victim's gold ornaments had also been taken by the accused, as per police information.

The police have booked a case against the accused under sections 376 (Punishment for rape), 384 (Punishment for extortion), and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code in the Women Police Station in Srinagar.

The investigation into the matter is underway.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Owais Wani has been constituted to look into the matter along with Sleet Shah, SHO woman Khalida Parveen and ASI Mohd Yousuf Shah, the statement read.
