Project K title - 'Kalki 2898-AD' and teaser unveiled at SDCC

On Friday, the makers announced the sci-fi film "Kalki 2898-AD," starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, directed by Nag Ashwin at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). The teaser of the film was also unveiled at th event. The magnum opus is scheduled to be released on 12 January 2024.

Producers Vyjayanthi Movies revealed a glimpse at SDCC, with Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan, who joined via video call. "Kalki 2898-AD" is the first-ever Indian film to participate at the SDCC.

As per the makers' press note, "Kalki 2989 AD" promises to transport audiences to an unprecedented world in Indian cinema, delivering an immersive cinematic experience. “Kalki 2898 AD”, seemingly gets its name from the final incarnation of the god Vishnu, named Kalki. As per ancient scriptures, Kalki arrives to end the Kali Yuga, or the age of the demon, during which people suffer because of vice and misery.

Director Nag Ashwin expressed that the film is a fusion of his love for Mahabharata and "Star Wars," combining science fiction and mythology.

Amitabh Bachchan shared his joy in being part of the project, praising Ashwin's exceptional work and the remarkable research behind "Project K," making it an extraordinary and thrilling experience.

Produced by C Aswani Dutt from Vyjayanthi Movies, the magnum opus, which was greenlit as ''Project K'' in 2020, also features Disha Patani.

Kamal Haasan praised "Kalki 2989-AD" for its epic vision, acknowledging his own attempts to create similar films on a smaller scale. He expressed delight in being part of a project with such a significant vision. Haasan recalled using hockey masks for troopers in his past works but admired how "Kalki 2989-AD" has executed it stylishly. The event, including actor Rana Daggubati on the panel, unfolded at SDCC's Hall H.
