Thackeray brothers face crushing defeat in BEST credit society polls

In the 2025–2030 term elections for the BEST Workers’ Co-operative Credit Society, the Thackeray brothers' alliance suffered a significant setback. Despite forming a united front under the 'Utkarsh Panel,' the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) failed to secure any seats. The panel contested 21 seats but ended with a disappointing 0/21 result, marking a stark contrast to their previous nine-year stronghold over the society.

In contrast, the Shashank Rao-led independent panel emerged victorious, clinching 14 seats, while the Mahayuti-backed 'Sahakar Samruddhi Panel,' led by BJP leaders Prasad Lad, Nitesh Rane, and Kiran Pawaskar, secured 7 seats. The election, held on August 18, 2025, recorded an impressive 83% voter turnout despite heavy rains. However, counting was delayed due to adverse weather conditions, with results announced late into the night.

This outcome has raised concerns within the Shiv Sena and MNS as they prepare for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. The Thackeray brothers' failure to secure even a single seat in this prestigious election has cast doubt on their political influence.

BJP leaders, including Prasad Lad, have seized the opportunity to criticize the Thackeray brand, with Lad mocking the alliance's performance on social media.
