Kapil Sharma's café in Surrey, Canada, Kap’s Café, was attacked for the second time on Thursday morning. Surrey Police responded around 4:40 a.m. after gunshots were heard near 85 Avenue and Scott Road. Witness Bob Singh said, “I heard shots fired, like five or six shots, and then the cops came.” The café’s windows were shattered, with at least six bullet holes visible.
A similar attack occurred on 10 July when gunmen opened fire while staff were inside. No injuries were reported in either incident. A video shared online, allegedly by a criminal gang, showed the shooting and included a voice warning, “We had called the target, but he didn’t hear the ring, so we had to take action. If he still doesn’t hear the ring, the next action will be taken soon in Mumbai.” Indian agencies, including Mumbai Police, are investigating the threat.
Responsibility for the attacks has been claimed by two rival gangs, one led by Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon and the other linked to Lawrence Bishnoi. After the July shooting, Harjit Singh Laddi, a member of the banned Khalistani group Babbar Khalsa International and wanted by India’s NIA, claimed the attack was over a segment on Sharma’s show that mocked Nihang Sikhs.
Surrey Police are investigating and have not confirmed any connection between the two incidents. Kap’s Café condemned the violence in a statement and reaffirmed its commitment to being a place of “warmth and community,” adding it would not be intimidated.
