Lovely Professional University (LPU) has climbed to 78th position in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, rising sharply from 109th the previous year. The university has secured 4th place in India, outperforming several globally renowned institutions including the University of California Los Angeles, Imperial College London, the University of Toronto, Nanyang Technological University, and the Indian Institutes of Technology at Bombay, Madras, and BHU Varanasi.
LPU earned recognition across 15 innovation-driven categories in the rankings. The university secured 4th globally and 1st in India in Financial Impact Driven Technology Transfer, 8th globally and 1st in India in University Based Entrepreneurial Projects, and 11th globally with the top India position in Funding for Sustainability. It also ranked 20th globally and 1st in India in Ethics and Integrity, 32nd globally and 1st in India in University Brand and Reputation, and 37th globally and 1st in India in Crisis Management, among other category-specific distinctions.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, stated, "The recognition reflects a larger shift in higher education where universities are increasingly being evaluated by the relevance, adaptability, and societal impact of the learning they deliver.
