TMC's Jahangir Khan withdraws from Falta re-poll

Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan on Tuesday, 19 May 2026 announced he was withdrawing from the re-polling in Falta constituency, South 24 Parganas, citing a special development package from Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari as the reason behind his decision.

Addressing a press conference, Khan said, "I am the son of Falta and I want Falta to be at peace and grow. Our CM Suvendu Adhikari is giving a special package for the development of Falta, which is why I am separating myself from the re-polling of the constituency."

The statement drew immediate political attention across West Bengal, with a sitting TMC leader openly acknowledging and crediting the BJP-led state government's outreach in his home constituency.

The Election Commission of India had ordered re-polling in Falta following proceedings related to the West Bengal assembly elections. Khan's public withdrawal marks a notable shift in the political dynamics of the South 24 Parganas seat, with reactions on social media ranging from mockery to speculation over political realignments.
