Government's precautions for holding JEE Main and NEET

 

According to sources, around 10 Lakh Masks,10 lakh pairs of gloves, 1300 Infrared thermometer guns around 6,600 litres of Hand Sanitizers and same amount of disinfectant liquids, 6600 sponges with 3,300 cleaning staff with an cost of Rs 13 Crore has been planned by the government to hold the national entrance exams.

This Blueprint is adopted by National Testing Agency(NTA) for the 660 test sites which will hold the JEE(Main) the first national entrance exam since the breakout of COVID-19 in the country.

Some states have joined in the process of protesting against the helding of exams, the Centre has decided to held both JEE(Main) and NEET or a year will be lost in academic and will affect the future admissions.

JEE(Main) which is an online exam for engineering students will be held from September 1 to September 6. Around 8.7 lakh Students have registered for this exam which will be supervised by 1.4 lakh invigilators. The NEET exam for students who want to enroll in medical and dental course will start on September 13.

Earlier the NTA had recognized 570 centres to hold exams but has now increased to 660 so that students can accommodate travel and follow Social Distancing rules. The number of shifts for the exam has been increased to 12 hours from 8 while the number of candidates per shift is reduced from 1.3 lakh to 85,000.

The test will be held in two shifts of three hours each in a day. The first shift of earlier 9:30 am to 12:30 pm will now be held on 9 am to noon. The second shift will start at 3 pm instead of regular 2pm.

India is currently the 3rd worst affected country by COVID-19 with more than 33 lakh cases out of which 25 lakh have recovered while 61,000 have lost their lives. At this time when the country is reporting more than 60,000 cases a day, is it a safe time to held this exams?
