A Major Relief to the transport sector was announced earlier. The government has set to waive off the annual road tax payable by all transporters and commercial vehicle owners in Maharashtra beginning from April 1.
Maharashtra has registered more than 11.41 lakh vehicles and all these are set to be benefited. These include tourist cabs, private service and passenger vehicles, schools and luxury buses and goods vehicle.
This move is set to be improved by the state Cabinet on Wednesday. This will be a second major economic decision made by the government following the special one time grant worth Rs 4,000 each to around 12 lakh households.
Maharashtra will now be the fifth state after Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand to waive off the road tax. Sources say that this won't be applicable to private car owners, who pay a one time tax while buying the car.
