On Tuesday morning around 15 workers in Gujarat were killed while sleeping on pavement when a high speeding truck lost control and ran over them. The incident has taken place at the Kim-Mandvi highway near Surat.
According to the police all workers are said to be from have originally hailed from Rajasthan. Around 20 people have suffered major injuries. 12 people died on the spot while one died on the way carrying to the hospital. 2 more people then succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
The accident is said to have happened after a tractor collided with the truck from the opposite side which led to the driver losing the balance and resulted in running over the people. The truck driver and his helper have also substained injuries and been treated at the hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and has announced that a compensation to the families of those have suffered in this accident.

Ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident in Surat. Rs. 50,000 each would be given to those injured.
