French Judge tasked with Investigating Rafale jet sale to India

According to reports, a French Judge has now been tasked in France to investigate a controversial 2016 multi-billion-dollar sale of Rafale Fighter Jets to India on basis of "corruption". The national financial prosecutors's office (PNF) informed this on Friday.

The $9.3 billion (7.8 billion euro) deal for 36 Rafale Fighter Jets between France and India has been strucked in corruption allegations.

The PNF had initially refused to investigate the sale which led to French media outlet, Mediapart to accuse it and the French Anti-Corruption agency of being involved as well.

After the reports, A French NGO, Sherpa, which specialises in financial crime, filed an official complaint for "corruption" and "influence peddling" which led to the magistrate to appoint a Judge.

Sherpa had already asked for an investigation in 2018 regarding this deal but the PNF took no action.
