On Saturday, Actor Aamir Khan and filmmaker Kiran Rao shocked the world by announcing their divorce after 15 years of marriage in a joint statement. The couple said that they will co-parent their son, Azad Rao Khan and will also continue on with their professional partnership on "Panni Foundation" and other projects.
"In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives- no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other" read the statement.
"We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nuture and raise together. We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Panni Foundation and other projects we feel passionate about".
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao first met each other during the shooting of movie "Lagaan" in which Khan was the lead actor while Rao worked as an assistant director. They tied the knot in December 2005. Khan was previously married to Reena Dutta and has two childrens, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan with her.
