SC: Can't Promote students without Final Year Exams

The Supreme Court on Friday made a decision and stuck up with UGC's guidelines that no state or University promote students without giving Final Year Exams.

The Court said that the final year exams "observes a reflection of competence" of the Students. The Court also said that the directives by University Grants Commission (UGC) can hold exams by September 30 and within its own domain.

A bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan, R S Reddy and M Shah said that if any State or University is not able to hold exams under jurisdiction of Disaster Management Act (DMA) before September 30, then they can appeal for an extension to the UGC.

The Court disposed the petitions filed by Students Organization and Shiv Sena's youth wing 'Yuva Sena' and said July 6 Guidelines of UGC cannot be ignored.
